Reading history
One point per day, each of them the 30-day window ending that day. A day with no snapshot is a gap in the line, never a line drawn through it.
History starts when seven daily snapshots exist with a reading.
Daily snapshots with a reading so far: 0. A snapshot is written once a day and carries a reading only once the subject has ten counted ballots in the window.

A quarantined or excluded ballot is recorded and not counted, and nothing is ever deleted: releasing one makes it count again. The excluded figure is site-wide because the exclusion list stores a ballot id, a reason and a date, and not a subject, so a per-subject figure would be a guess. How exclusions work.

Why people split
The split is less about taste than about whether you can hear the dialogue. Two technical changes made speech harder to follow at home. Better microphones let actors speak softly and mumble, and studios rarely pay to re-record lines that come out unclear. And films and shows are mixed for theatrical surround systems, then downmixed to the two speakers inside a television, a phone or a laptop; the wide dynamic range that makes an explosion loud in a cinema leaves the whispered line underneath it inaudible at home. Christopher Nolan has said other directors rang him to report they could not make out his films' dialogue. YouGov's own respondents give the same reasons in the same order: enhanced comprehension, understanding accents, and noisy rooms lead the list of why people switch captions on, while those who leave them off mostly say they are distracting or clutter the screen. The generational gap follows the hardware: young viewers watch on small screens with small speakers, and a 2021 UK survey found 80% of 18-to-25-year-olds used subtitles regularly against under a quarter of 56-to-75-year-olds.
