Reading history
One point per day, each of them the 30-day window ending that day. A day with no snapshot is a gap in the line, never a line drawn through it.
History starts when seven daily snapshots exist with a reading.
Daily snapshots with a reading so far: 0. A snapshot is written once a day and carries a reading only once the subject has ten counted ballots in the window.

A quarantined or excluded ballot is recorded and not counted, and nothing is ever deleted: releasing one makes it count again. The excluded figure is site-wide because the exclusion list stores a ballot id, a reason and a date, and not a subject, so a per-subject figure would be a guess. How exclusions work.

| Pew Research CenterAccessed 2026-09-14 | 23 Feb 2009to 23 Mar 2009 | 1,488 | Respondents were asked whether they had engaged in each of 10 different activities in the past 24 hours, one of which was taking a nap. Pew notes the question 'did not specify what is meant by a nap'. The nap item was asked of a split sample, so the base for this item is smaller than the full 1,488 interviews. | 34% of U.S. adults napped in the past 24 hours; men 38% versus women 31%; Black adults 50% versus about 33% of white and Hispanic adults; adults earning below $30,000 42%; over 50% of adults aged 80 and over |
Why people split
Pew Research Center's 2009 'Nap Time' report found that napping is not evenly spread across the population: it tracks who is having a hard time. People who reported trouble sleeping were much more likely to have napped in the past 24 hours (41%) than people who slept fine. So were people who described themselves as unhappy (43%, against 31% of the very happy), people in poor health, people over 80, and people on lower incomes. Pew also found almost no difference between weekdays and weekends, which undercuts the idea that napping is mainly a weekend indulgence built around work schedules. That is a reasonable explanation for why opinion divides. For one group the nap is a deliberate restorative habit that they defend; for another it is a signal that something else (insomnia, illness, age, overwork) is going wrong. Pew is explicit that it never defined what counted as a nap, so respondents set their own threshold.
