Reading history
One point per day, each of them the 30-day window ending that day. A day with no snapshot is a gap in the line, never a line drawn through it.
History starts when seven daily snapshots exist with a reading.
Daily snapshots with a reading so far: 0. A snapshot is written once a day and carries a reading only once the subject has ten counted ballots in the window.

A quarantined or excluded ballot is recorded and not counted, and nothing is ever deleted: releasing one makes it count again. The excluded figure is site-wide because the exclusion list stores a ballot id, a reason and a date, and not a subject, so a per-subject figure would be a guess. How exclusions work.

The rows above are rolling 30-day counts only in the final row. Every other row is a one-shot measurement by its publisher, on its own question, with its own method. They are placed together so they can be compared, not because they are comparable.
Why people split
Of the 30 cabin behaviours YouGov tested, this is the most evenly divided of all: 38% acceptable, 36% unacceptable, a two-point gap. It also carries the largest undecided share on the entire list, at 26%. YouGov singled it out as one of four genuinely contested behaviours, alongside phone calls, small dogs and early unbuckling. The size of that 'not sure' group is the tell. On most items Americans answer instantly (86% say letting children play in the aisle is unacceptable, 81% say using a laptop on the tray table is fine), and the undecided share sits in the teens. Here a quarter of people decline to rule at all. That fits a conflict in which both sides have an obvious claim. The light is fitted above a seat for the use of whoever is sitting in it, and it points down into a row where other people are trying to sleep. Nothing in the cabin says whose turn it is, and the survey suggests most passengers have never decided.
