One ballot per browser per day, counted the moment it lands. This is the same ballot and the same dedupe as the daily card; there is no second, weaker vote path on this page.

Reading history
One point per day, each of them the 30-day window ending that day. A day with no snapshot is a gap in the line, never a line drawn through it.
History starts when seven daily snapshots exist with a reading.
Daily snapshots with a reading so far: 0. A snapshot is written once a day and carries a reading only once the subject has ten counted ballots in the window.

A quarantined or excluded ballot is recorded and not counted, and nothing is ever deleted: releasing one makes it count again. The excluded figure is site-wide because the exclusion list stores a ballot id, a reason and a date, and not a subject, so a per-subject figure would be a guess. How exclusions work.

The rows above are rolling 30-day counts only in the final row. Every other row is a one-shot measurement by its publisher, on its own question, with its own method. They are placed together so they can be compared, not because they are comparable.
Why people split
The window wins on the raw numbers, 57% to 28%, but the topline shows the preference flips with experience. Among Americans who fly less than once a year, 25% choose the aisle. Among those who fly four or five times a year it is 44%, and among those flying more than five times a year, 49%. That is a near-even split at the top of the frequency scale. Age moves the same way: 21% of 18-to-34s want the aisle against 34% of the over-50s. So does household income, from 20% of those under $40,000 to 44% of those over $100,000. The pattern is consistent across every breakdown in the tables. The more time somebody spends on planes, the more they want to be able to stand up without asking permission, and the less the view is worth to them. That makes this less a question of temperament than a marker of how much a person flies. Almost nobody defends the middle seat: 1%.
